      Program Approval and Accreditation

The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Navarro College is accredited by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) and approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON).

Initial national accreditation was granted in 1996. The program has maintained national accreditation since that date. The last ACEN site visit was a scheduled 8th year visit in the spring of 2017. Currently, the program is in compliance with all Accreditation Standards and Criteria and has been granted continued accreditation. The next accreditation review is scheduled to take place in Spring 2025.

      Program Peer Review Committee

Navarro College has a Peer Review Committee as required by the Texas Board of Nursing. This committee reviews and maintains the Peer Review Policy in addition to reviewing complaints against RNs and LVNs that work for Navarro College.
Any person who has reason to believe that an RN or LVN who works for Navarro College is not competent or has engaged in malpractice should report that licensed nurse to this Peer Review Committee. They may call:

      • Julie Arteaga, MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE, Chair at (972) 923-5122

Thank you for your interest in the LVN to RN Bridge program at Navarro College. We are committed to promoting the best possible educational experience for our students. Navarro College nursing faculty have evidence-based practices, attend annual nursing education training, and comply with nationally recognized professional and ethical standards. We are proud of our high student and customer satisfaction scores.

The Bridge entry is based on a mobility curriculum with summer bridge or transition courses that allow LVNs (Licensed Vocational Nurses) to “bridge” the gap between Vocational Nursing Education and the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. This one-year curriculum completes the 60 hours required for an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS ADN-Bridge). Bridge applicants must have a current LVN license. It is recommended that applicants have 9+ months work experience in an acute care setting. Applications to the program are available online. Prospective LVN to RN Bridge applicants must meet all general program admission requirements including attendance at a program information session.

Seven (7) Pre-Requisite LVN to RN Bridge courses include:
      • BIOL 2401 – Anatomy & Physiology I (A&P I)
      • BIOL 2402 – Anatomy & Physiology II (A&P II)
      • BIOL 2420 – Microbiology
      • PSYC 2301 – General Psychology
      • PSYC 2314 – Lifespan Growth and Development
      • SPCH 1311 or SPCH 1315 – Speech
      • ENGL 1301 – Composition

Two (2) additional non-RNSG degree plan courses that can be completed while in the program:
      • BIOL 1322 – Nutrition & Diet Therapy
      • Approved Fine Art/Humanities elective
Potential applicants can receive program information from an ADN faculty. Call (972) 923-5128 and ask for a phone conference or for an appointment to meet with a faculty on one of Navarro College campuses.

A few things to know if you are interested in applying for 2020 admission to the ADN program:
      • TEAS Exam: If you are interested in admission for 2022, you may take the TEAS exam twice between March 1, 2022 and the application deadline for 2022 admissions.
      • The ADN Program will only accept Anatomy and Physiology I&II completed with 7 years prior to the application deadline.

For 2022 admissions, all prerequisite courses must be completed prior to application.

NOTICE TO STUDENTS REGARDING LICENSING (HB 1508)

Effective September 1st 2017, HB 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion.

The following website provides links to information about the licensing process and requirements http://www.bne.state.tx.us/licensure_eligibility.asp

Any nursing applicant who has been arrested, convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation, diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized in the past five years for schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder, or addicted to or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug within the past five years, must petition the Texas Board of Nursing for a declaratory order concerning their eligibility to take the licensing examination, the NCLEX-RN.

The application for a declaratory order can be downloaded from the BON website at https://www.bon.texas.gov/forms_declaratory_order.asp. This declaratory order must be completed and the eligibility letter received before the student starts nursing courses. If the case must be sent to the enforcement division, the processing may take up to 24 months.

This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense.

Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice.
